When Things Were Merely Decent

When things were merely decent, mainstream books and movies did not have much sex, swearing, or violence. Censors banned such things. But they also did not have a Christian world view. There was no swearing, but there was no salvation message either. We actually have our corrupt culture to thank for the abundance of Christian programming, literature, and websites to choose from now. Christian movies have gone from low budget, made for home viewing, productions with unknown actors to multiweek holdovers in major theaters and even some well known entertainers. Christian materials are more readily available than ever before, worldwide.
And that has been a life saver during the pandemic. When normal church services were unavailable, many of us were, and still are, able to watch our own pastor from our own home. And because church was never meant to be a spectator sport, I stood up for Bible reading and singing and sang out loud as if I were in church. Although at home communion was certainly different, Ritz crackers and juice. But we, presumably, all partook at the same time.
Christians of every generation have thought the moral decline in their lifetime was the world's worst. But at least, in my lifetime, wealth and technology have made possible many new ways to share with the world the light of Christ. And that shines much brighter than the dim bulb of decency we had before.
